The remaining plane trees in Dublin's O'Connell Street have received a temporary reprieve. Following the outcry arising from the publicity given to the issue by RTE's Marian Finucane, the capital's politicians voted unanimously to revisit the decision to cut down the trees. Four years ago the same politicians approved the plan to remove the trees as part of the O'Connell Street Integrated Action Plan. They say they didn't read the small print at the time. That's not the end of the matter; revised plans will have to be prepared and further votes taken.
