The Irish Independent got all excited when it learned that Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi was seeking the return of the Caravaggio painting, "The Taking of Christ" which is hanging in the National Gallery in Dublin. The newspaper had failed to check the story which originated as a hoax on an irreverent discussion forum, associated with http://www.p45.net, which has in the past succeeded in having harmless stories accepted as genuine.
