Postgraduate Courses 2005-2006

Applications are now invited from graduates, and students expecting to graduate in 2005, for the following postgraduate courses now available in our Department. All of these courses are run in our state-of-the-art teaching and laboratory facilities at NUI, Galway.

Higher Diploma In Applied Science

(Software Design & Development)

This one year, full-time programme will commence in September 2005. The Higher Diploma is intended to prepare graduates for a career in software development. Graduates from a degree background with a numerate component are eligible to apply. Students expecting to graduate in 2005 may also apply.

The Programme places strong emphasis on applied skills, and core topics include: Programming, Software Engineering, Databases, Networks & Communications, Digital Media and Internet based systems. Candidates may also select a number of advanced optional courses from application domains including: electronic systems, manufacturing systems, business systems, computational methods and information technology.

  • Closing date for receipt of completed applications is Friday May 13, 2005 (April 15 for non - EU applicants).

M.Sc. In Applied Science

(Software Design & Development)

This two-year, full-time programme will commence in September 2005. Honours graduates from a degree background with a numerate component are eligible to apply, as are students expecting to graduate in 2005.

The Programme provides focused technical training in software development techniques, tools and essential academic foundations. The course also develops students' research capabilities, and allows them to pursue a substantial research project involving software design. Graduates of this degree are likely to enter research and product development careers, in the software industry itself, or in a broad range of other sectors. Competition for the limited number of places on the programme is keen and final selection will be based on a combination of academic results, experience and interview.

  • Closing date for receipt of completed applications is Friday, May 13, 2005 (April 15 for non - EU applicants).

Masters Of Information Technology (MIT)

This programme will commence in September 2005. Graduates with a second-class honours (minimum) degree in any primary discipline are eligible to apply, as are students expecting to graduate in 2005.

This innovative two-year full-time programme integrates the technical, business and behavioural dimensions of IT and incorporates a six-month business/industrial internship in the second year. Competition for the limited number of places on the programme is keen. Application is by CV and final selection will be based on a combination of academic results, experience and interview.

  • Closing date for receipt of completed applications is Friday, April 1, 2005.

All of the above courses are part funded under the Advanced Technical Skills programme of the European Social Fund.
