Independent News & Media (IN&M) has launched the "compact" edition of its flagship title, The Irish Independent, into South Leinster and Munster, where it will come into direct competition with The Irish Examiner, formerly The Cork Examiner. Sales figures for the new format, which is already on sale in Dublin, were not disclosed although a spokesman said they were "at the upper end of expectations".
