The latest ABC newspaper circulation figures show that the Irish Independent's new tabloid version has reported an average net circulation of 52,045 for the first half of this year. Its original, broadsheet incarnation posted daily sales of just over 129,000; the comparable figure for the first six months of 2003, when only the latter was on sale, was 162,463. Sales of the Irish Times dropped slightly on a year-on-year basis, from 117,565 last year to 116,009 between January and June 2004. The Irish Examiner saw a more pronounced drop-off, of 4.4%, to 57,609 sales. Other publications suffering downward slides included the Evening Herald, Ireland on Sunday and the Sunday Independent. The Sunday Tribune experienced an 8.7% increase in sales over the six months, to an average circulation of 87,026, while the Sunday Business Post also increased its sales, rising 1% to 52,115.
