United Drug group, a provider of services to healthcare manufacturers and pharmaceutical retailers, has acquired two British firms - Universal Conference & Incentive Travel Limited and Business Edge Solutions & Training Limited - for a total maximum consideration of £14.15m (€17.93m). Universal, head-quartered in Slough in Berkshire, provides event management services to pharmaceutical companies across Britain and the US. BEST is based in St Albans in Hertfordshire and provides a range of personal, sales and team effectiveness training programmes for pharmaceutical companies in Britain market. Both Universal and BEST will integrate into United Drug's contract sales and marketing services division while the 150 employed at the two companies, including senior management, will stay with the businesses.

Meanwhile, in its latest trading statement for the six months to the end of March 2008, United Drug recorded revenue growth in each of its four divisions - Pharma Wholesale, Supply Chain Services, Medical & Scientific and Contract Sales & Marketing - despite a significant weakening in the value of sterling against the euro.
