Record year for food and drink exports | Print |  Email
Wednesday, 16 January 2008

While growth in food and drink exports slowed last year the total was still 5% ahead of the previous year at a record €8.62bn. In announcing the results, An Bord Bia noted that the growth was achieved in the face of the Euro strengthening against both the US dollar and sterling, and a more consistent presence of competitive European suppliers on the British market. Some 42% of exports went to Britain with a further 31% going to other EU countries, while just 5% went to the US. Asia also took 5% but that represented 50% growth and meant that the 2009 target was reached two years ahead of schedule. The full 40-page report, "Performance & Prospects: Export Review and Outlook 2007/2008" is available online.
