A leading energy supplier of gas and electricity to over 600,000 industrial, commercial and residential customers on the island of Ireland, Bord Gáis currently employs over 900 people. The company has developed one of Europe’s most modern energy networks and is expanding beyond its core gas business. Bord Gáis intends to consolidate and grow its position in the all-island energy markets, both gas and electricity, particularly through expansion into the electricity supply and power generation sectors. The company is seeking to recruit the following senior positions:
 

HEAD OF INTERNAL AUDIT AND RISK MANAGEMENT
Cork Based (Ref 217/08)

The company is seeking a Head of Internal Audit and Risk Management to lead an integrated Internal Audit and Risk Management function and to co-ordinate and align the function with the organisation’s compliance and other assurance activities.

 

Responsibilities

The Head of Internal Audit will determine, drive and manage the planning and implementation of the company’s internal audit and risk management programmes. This person will also act as the knowledge centre for technical, risk management, financial and corporate governance matters.

The ideal candidate will be an exceptional individual with a professional and proactive approach to internal audits. This person will be responsible for the continued development of the internal audit and risk management function and be capable of improving the effectiveness of risk management, control and governance processes within the organisation. The successful candidate will have the ability to develop strong relationships with Bord Gáis business units and their support functions, and to operate effectively with senior management and board committees. The person will provide assurance to the Board, and strong leadership to the audit team and its partners, ensuring the organisation is at the forefront of best practice and international standards. The position will have a functional reporting line to the Audit Committee with an administrative reporting line to the Finance Director.


Qualifications/Requirements

  • A relevant professional qualification with at least 8-10 years PQE experience and at least 5 years at a senior management level in an auditing risk or fi nancial role

  • Extensive experience in the application of best practice in Corporate Governance, Risk Management and Internal Control Evaluation & Testing

  • Strong commercial acumen and the ability to contribute at a strategic leve

  • Extensive understanding of relevant regulatory environment and current regulatory issues

  • Excellent personal communication, leadership and organisational skills

COMMERCIAL LAWYER
Cork based (Ref 218/08)

The company is seeking a Commercial Lawyer with significant transactional experience to support its exciting business growth
plans.

Responsibilities
The Commercial Lawyer will provide expert advice and commercial support on acquisitions, joint ventures, commercial agreements, regulatory issues as well as ad hoc legal matters to all business units within the organisation. The position requires a person with a highly commercial approach who enjoys working in a fast paced demanding environment. The Commercial Lawyer will be supported by a junior lawyer and will report into the Head of Legal Services.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • A qualified solicitor with significant experience ideally in a top tier legal fi rm or an in-house environment
  • Experience in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts
  • Significant transactional experience of mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures
  • Exceptional analytical and communication skills
  • Strong commercial acumen and the ability to contribute at a strategic level
  • Experience in the area of energy, regulation, environmental or construction law an advantage
