Professor Terry Eagleton, recently appointed Adjunct Professor of Cultural Theory at NUI Galway, delivered his inaugural lecture this week. The lecture, entitled "The Death of Criticism?" considered some traditional functions of criticism, the role of the critic as public intellectual and the problems facing that role in contemporary society.
