Irish Festive Greetings to Everyone, I’ve discovered the perfect Christmas gift; it’s unusual, authentic, has a nice dash of Irish – and it’s cheap. No, it’s not a kiss from the Editor. See the article "Irish and International Indie Christmas Album" for the next step in the promising ventures by Dublin-based music blogger mp3hugger. I wish you all a peaceful Christmas and New Year.

Gorey Gallery Hosts Jonasz Stern - Polish survivor Of WWII

The Pearse Street Gallery in Gorey, Co. Wexford, is conducting a sale of rare and exclusive art this month, in many cases for the first time ever in Ireland.  Among the works on display will be a selection from the great Polish artist Jonasz Stern, who lived through the Nazi occupation of Poland, only just escaping death at the hands of the SS. After the war he moved to Krakow in his native Poland and became a renowned painter.

His work, much of it abstract composition using fish skeletons and animal bones, can be seen as an exploration of life and death.  Stern himself remarked: "A man who has lived through his own death could hardly tell the world anything else".

"Art and Architecture of Ireland" (AAI) is one of the most important research and publication projects ever undertaken in the history of Irish art. This five-volume series on the Royal Irish Academy will be published by Yale University Press in 2014.

Professor Andrew Carpenter, General Editor of the project, says, "The Art and Architecture of Ireland project will greatly enhance the visibility of Irish art in a global context, and will promote the international reputation both of Irish art and of academic research in Ireland". No comprehensive publication of this nature on the subject of Irish art and architecture exists.

The five volumes in the series, and their editors, are: Medieval Art and Architecture, c.400-1600 (Ed. Dr Rachel Moss); Painters and Painting 1600-1900 (Ed. Dr Nicola Figgis); Sculptors and Sculpture 1600-2000 (Ed. Dr Paula Murphy); Architects and Architecture 1600-2000 (Eds. Professor Rolf Lober and Professor Hugh Campbell); and Painting, Printmaking, Photography & Video Art 1900-2000 (Ed. Peter Murray).

Irish and International Indie Christmas Album
indicater.jpg

It’s the ideal present for any music fan, an alternative mix of originally penned Christmas songs by Irish and international music artists. Featuring David Kitt, Jape, Nina Hynes and 15 rising stars of the alternative music scene, “An Indiecater Christmas” is the fourth compilation album to be released by Indiecater Records label, brainchild of Dublin-based music blogger mp3hugger. “It is an alternative to the perennial Christmas songs we hear during the month of December. In July we invited music artists to compose original Christmas songs for inclusion on the new album. We received more than 50 submissions from artists throughout the world.” All but four of the 17 featured tracks were recorded especially for this release. “Like other Indiecater releases, the purpose of this album is to introduce people to music they may not otherwise get to hear. The majority of this goes back to the artists, so not only will you be dancing to a different drum this Christmas but you will also be giving these great bands a helping hand along the way”, explains mp3hugger. Only €6.50 from www.indiecater.com
