President looks to Council of State before signing bills |

President McAleese has decided to convene a meeting of the Council of State, under Article 26 of the Constitution, to be held at Áras an Uachtaráin next Wednesday, for the purpose of consulting with the Council regarding the Defamation Bill 2006 and the Criminal Justice (Amendment) Bill 2009.
The President may, after consultation with the Council of State, refer either Bill to the Supreme Court for a test of its Constitutionality.
