At a meeting yesterday with new US Ambassador Dan Rooney, Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern confirmed that Ireland will accept two detainees from Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. Mr Lenihan said that no details of the two men would be revealed nor would the date of their arrival. He urged people to allow them time to adapt to their new surroundings.
From previous reports it is understood that at least one of detainees is from Uzbekistan and that it would not be safe for him to return to his homeland.
