Michael Fingleton, the former CEO of Irish Nationwide Building Society, has so far failed to return the controversial €1m bonus which he pocketed before his departure from the company. There was widespread anger earlier this year when it was learned that Fingleton had been paid a €1m bonus after the Government had come to the rescue of all the banks by introducing a €440bn bank guarantee scheme. Earlier the former INBS CEO had taken control of his €27.6m pension package.
The outcry over the bonus was such that Fingleton eventually agreed to return it voluntarily. That was in March but INBS has so far been unable to recover the money.
