When their record for a round-Ireland powerboat trip was broken by a rival team last month, it didn't take long for Philip Fitzgibbon and Mike Shanahan to decided to reclaim it. The two Tralee men set off from Kinsale on the eight hundred mile journey on Thursday morning. The pair travelled up the west coast, making a fuel stop at Belmullet in Co. Mayo, with a second stop at Portavogie on the Ards Peninsula. When they arrived back into Kinsale, having completed the journey in a record eighteen hours, thirty-eight minutes and fifty seconds, ome dozen inflatables were there to greet them as well as a crowd of sixty wellwishers to salute their new record.
