The trial is continuing in Dublin Circuit Criminal Court of prison officer Robert O'Neill (44) of Clonee, Co. Meath who is accused of falsely claiming to have been injured by a needle in Mountjoy prison. The incident took place in May 2006 when Mr O'Neill placed his hand inside a palm reader; fellow officer Edward Barry reported seeing blood on his colleague's hand and a small orange needle. However another officer, Alan Maher, had used the same palm reader shortly before Mr O'Neill with no ill effects.
