- The death has taken place at the age of 85 of Werner Heubeck, head of Citybus and Ulsterbus for two decades. During his time leading the transport company the German-born ex-Luftwaffe fighter became famous for ensuring that the bus service continued uninterrupted during the Troubles, by personally removing bombs from vehicles.
- The death took place in England last Sunday of broadcaster and writer Sir Ludovic Kennedy, whose exposure of miscarriages of justice included the Birmingham Six, the Guildford Four and the Maguire family.
- An additional 100 jobs are to be created in Derry by Indian outsourcing company Firstsource. At present the company employs almost 1,000 in Derry and a further 400 at its contact centre in Belfast.
- The PSNI yesterday evening arrested a 17-year-old youth in the Whiterock area of west Belfast on suspicion of endangering an aircraft. The arrest was made after a laser device was shone on a police helicopter that was on patrol in the area.
