According to the Irish News the MI5 witness known as 'Amir', one of 35 agents due to give testimony at a Real IRA trial, may refuse to testify. He is a listed witness in the trial of Paul McCaugherty, Desmond Kearns and Dermot Gregory who are charged in connection with an alleged plot to smuggle weapons from Europe.
'Amir' has threatened to withdraw his co-operation unless he is suitably recompensed. Through his solicitor he has demanded £650k and has also demanded an honour from Queen Elizabeth which he says he was promised but which promise was subsequently withdrawn after he refused to give evidence.
