Man in court after Limerick shooting | Print |  Email
Sunday, 01 November 2009

Limerick man Michael Lynch (27) was in a critical condition in hospital following a shooting incident in the O'Malley Park Estate in Southhill on Wednesday morning. A 49-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman were arrested a short time later. According to reports an argument had been taking place between members of two families involved in a long-standing feud when a gun was produced.

While both men were known to gardaí, neither is a member of Limerick's feuding criminal gangs.

On Thursday Anthony Kelly (49), of O’Malley Park, appeared in court charged with possession of a handgun with intent to endanger life. The accused is the brother of Michael Kelly who, despite his criminal leanings, was elected to Limerick City Council in 1999. He died as a result of a gunshot wound to the head in 2004.
