Kildare: Walking brings its own reward for Athy student |

Gillian Deegan from Athy, a student at Waterford Institute of Technology, entered a competition run by Sony Ericsson which saw her undertaking a walk with ninety-nine other people from Hamburg to Berlin, to arrive in time for the MTV Euopean Music Awards. Having completed the three hundred-kilometre walk, the one hundred competitors were asked to vote for one of their number to present an award during the event on Thursday night. The twenty-one-year-old design student was taken by surprise when she was voted as the overall winner.
