Mark Farrell from Kesh was one of a team of four who recently sailed a converted Renault Laguna car across the Irish Sea from Donaghadee harbour to Portpatrick in Scotland. The former Portora student was joined in the “Top Gear”-inspired venture by Peter Martin, Carl McConkey and Rick Miles, and the twenty-three mile journey took six and a half hours. The men bought the car for £100 and customised it with foam, an outboard motor and a bilge pump, and they also had a back-up boat though they didn't have to call on it during the journey. Mark, the son of Raymond and Myrtle Farrell, admitted he had little sailing experience and is not a strong swimmer.
