Glass production is to resume at Waterford Crystal next June but it will be at a much reduced rate and in city centre premises. Up to 100 people will be employed, about half of them craft workers who will produce high value products for use as trophies and presentation items. The new owners, New York-based venture capital company KPS, plan to move the operation to a new purpose-built riverside facility within three to four years.
Attracting tourists to the interim facility and to the permanent home will be a key aim of the company, the city council and the local Chamber of Commerce.
