Compensation for man whose house was destroyed | Print |  Email
Sunday, 15 November 2009

In the High Court on Monday, Justice Roderick Murphy awarded €46k plus costs to Neville Presho from Holywood, Co. Down for the destruction of his house on Tory Island, Co. Donegal. Mr Presho's 19th century house was gradually demolished while he was living in New Zealand from 1988 to 1994 and he had taken the case against Ostán Thoraigh Comhlacht Teoranta, owned by Patrick Doohan.

When Mr Presho returned to Tory he found that the site on which his house once stood was now a car park and also contained a septic tank servicing the hotel. There was evidence that a digger had been used in the demolition of the house and Mr Doohan owned the only digger on the island.
