To mark the fortieth anniversary of the shooting of the film “Alfred the Great” in the Castlehackett area, the Cinemobile will be parked at the GAA pitch in Caherlistrane this weekend. The cinema will be giving a showing of the film which featured many local people as extras, giving them a chance to see themselves, perhaps for the first time. The film starred David Hemmings, Michael York and Sinead Cusack, and among Galwegians who worked as extras on the film was Michael D Higgins. During its stay in Caherlistrane a number of other films will be shown in the Cinemobile.
