The body of 88-year-old former Portora Royal schoolteacher Bill Barbour was recovered from a Co. Fermanagh lough on Wednesday, a day after a neighbour found the body of Mr Barbour’s wife Anne at their home on the Sligo Road in Enniskillen. Mrs Barbour, who was 83 years old, had Alzheimer's disease and her husband was her sole carer. She died from suffocation
The couple’s son, Dr James Barbour, told the BBC NI that a note left at the house read: “Dementia is too degrading an illness to be suffered unnecessarily. We lived too long.”
