Joseph Finnerty (45) of Rocrea, Co. Tipperary was given a three-year jail sentence when he appeared before Justice Barry White on Friday. Finnerty had earlier been found guilty of the sexual assault of a then 14-year-old girl in November 2000, whom he drove to an isolated area before carrying out the assault. The court heard that the victim is suffering from “serious and enduring” post-traumatic stress.
Mr Griffin is in an assisted living scheme in Waterford and is not expected to return to full-time work.
