Two members of the British rock band Simply Red appealed to a judge at Letterkenny Circuit Court on Thursday to at least temporarily resolve a dispute over shooting and fishing rights on an estate near Ballybofey. Musicians Mick Hucknall and Christopher de Margary claim that they purchased the shooting and fishing rights of Glenmore Estate for €1.3m in 2005. Their neighbour John Wilde claims that a previous owner of Glenmore had transferred the rights to his father.
Both sides told the court that they were expecting shooting parties over the weekend and although John Wilde has undisputed shooting and fishing rights to an estate on the opposite bank of the River Finn, Judge John O’Hagan refused to grant a temporary injunction which would keep him from using the Glenmore land. The case is to become before the court again on Friday.
