Monday, 07 December 2009

A fuel laundering plant uncovered on Tuesday on the border in south Armagh is the largest ever found in the North. Co-operation between Customs and Revenue officers from the South and the North, along with gardaí and the PSNI led to the discovery of the plant at Faughart. The distribution depot was immediately across the road in Co. Louth.

The facility is estimated to have the capability of laundering 6.5 million litres of fuel each year and would represent a total loss to Revenue of £3.2m annually. It is believed that the laundered fuel was destined for both Northern and Southern markets. No arrests were made.
