The Emerald Star cruise line, which has bases in Counties Leitrim, Cavan and Galway, is to move many of its vessels to Europe in a downsizing operation which will see a number of jobs lost. At present the company employs some 50 people and 20 of these, in the sales and marketing area, will be made redundant immediately.

The company will continue to hire out self drive cruisers, accommodating two to ten people, on the Shannon and Erne waterways.
