Charlie Bird did not, it seems, settle into his role as RTÉ's Washington correspondent and is returning to Ireland one year into his four-year contract. Back here he will pick up where he left off, returning to his old role of Chief News Correspondent. RTÉ is expected to appoint a new Washington correspondent from within its ranks in the near future.
