Robbie Keane, the captain of the Irish international soccer team, has joined Celtic on loan from his current club Tottenham Hotspur. The loan spell will last until the end of the season although if he lives up to the expectations of the Celtic fans there will be huge pressure on him to remain.

Spurs manager Harry Redknapp said he wants to see Keane back with the club at the start of next season and was only willing to let him go because of Keane's desire to play top flight soccer every week; Crouch and Defoe are playing too well and scoring too many goals to be dropped.

Keane, an avid Celtic fan in his youth, failed to make any impact in his opening game on Wednesday when Celtic went down 1-0 to lowly Kilmarnock, but was on the score sheet with a penalty in a Cup tie against Dunfermline on Sunday; Celtic won 4-2.
