The victim of last week’s gas explosion in the Australian city of Darwin has been named as Patrick Bird (24), a refrigeration mechanic from Baillieborough, Co. Cavan. Patrick was well known in his community as a Gaelic footballer, having played for his county at minor and under-21 levels. He left for Australia in September after his club, Baillieborough Shamrocks, was eliminated from the Cavan intermediate championship.
